The activities with a checkbox symbol (☑) can be done on "official time" which is a labor code provided by the agency to do the work during the workday. Activities without this symbol are "internal union business" that would be done when not in a duty status (before or after work, or during breaks or meal periods), as a volunteer.
Serve as the local's top officer, presiding at meetings of the Local.
Serve as the spokesperson of the Local.
With the Secretary-Treasurer, sign checks and make purchases on behalf of the local.
Appoint the members of all committees of the Local, and may personally serve on any/all committees.
Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board at monthly meetings.
Serve as the local's second-in-charge officer, presiding in the absence of the President.
Keeps track of the local's finances, entering all transactions in our accounting software.
With the President, sign checks and make purchases on behalf of the local.
Prepare and file the required annual DOL and IRS reports.
Take minutes of local and executive board meetings (or ensure someone takes them).
Update the roster of members, forwarding updates to IFPTE as necessary.
Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board at monthly meetings.
Make decisions on which grievances and other representational cases to pursue. ☑
Assign representation duties among the local's stewards. ☑
Ensure stewards are properly trained. ☑
Recruit new stewards in each work site, and serve as a conduit of the workers' perspectives to the Executive Board.
Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board at monthly meetings.

Attend monthly meetings of the IFPTE National Council of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Locals ("ACE Council", held remotely in evenings).

Attend the business meeting of the International Union and the IFPTE Federal Caucus, participating in votes on proposed resolutions, amendments, and candidates for office.
Attend presentations related to representational issues. ☑
Note, this is specifically to be held in 2027. There will be travel to New Orleans required, as well as some preparation in terms of reading proposed legislation and platforms of candidates for national union office; and polling the membership to determine how votes should be cast.
Attend monthly Chicago Federation of Labor meetings (typically held at union halls in Chicago).
Attend quarterly CFL Federal Workers Committee meetings at the CFL office in Chicago. ☑
Meet with workers to determine if a grievance or other representational action is warranted. ☑
Meet with management officials to attempt to resolve issues informally, and if necessary, through the grievance procedure. ☑
Speak with workers to understand working conditions and to be aware of any recent changes. ☑
Meet with management to bargain the Collective Bargaining Agreement, mid-term bargaining, and bargaining on the impact and implementation management initiatives. ☑
Formulate negotiation strategy, including gathering input from bargaining unit employees. ☑
Review management proposals and policies to identify negotiable provisions. ☑
Arrange and attend meetings with Congressional members and staff. ☑ (partially)
Formulate political strategy, including gathering input from union members. ☑ (partially)
Attend the annual IFPTE Legislative Advocacy Week in Washington, DC. ☑ (partially)
Serve as the Committee on Political Education (COPE) representative to bodies such as the CFL and state federations.
Recruit new members to join the local.
Plan organizing drives at the district office and/or field sites.
Coordinate solidarity days for members to wear union swag, etc.
Participate in an annual review of the local's financial records.
