If you are a non-management employee of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District (regardless of duty station, and including DA Fellows and DA Student Interns), it is time to claim your rights and show your interest in establishing a bargaining unit for SPK employees. The SPK Organizing Committee is distributing paper Interest Cards, and here is where you submit a digital scan/photo of your completed card. (Remote employees, email us for a PDF of the card.)
You can also join Local 777 as an Associate Member to support our organizing efforts.
Remember, we are the union regardless of whether the FLRA has legally recognized a bargaining unit yet.
Our dues for Associate Members are $35 per month. This is approximately the median amount of dues the current full members in Chicago District pay.
We travel to Washington annually to meet with Congress and USACE, Army, OPM, and other officials; and we maintain contact with them remotely throughout the year.
We have expert media professionals and writers on retainer to get our message out to the public and to strategic targets like executive branch officials and members of congress.
Membership in a union - especially when you wear swag or have other things like hard hat stickers that show you are a member - is a protected status. It gives you an opportunity to speak openly and honestly about your working conditions.
Even if you don't have a recognized bargaining unit or a contract, you still have certain rights that a union can help you defend. You can name a rep of your choosing (e.g., a union rep) who will get official (paid on-the-clock time) to assist with grievances under the DOD Administrative Grievance Procedure, Equal Employment Opportunity complaints, OSHA inspections, and more.
Local 777 has expert attorneys on retainer who focus solely on federal employee law and we have access to unlimited legal advice for employment issues for our members. We also get annual legal training for those who volunteer to serve as stewards.
Several of the rights of employees under the Federal Service Labor-Management Relations Statute are related to "membership" in a union, without regard to whether we have a bargaining unit established. We can represent workers who don't have a contract in filing Unfair Labor Practice charges with the Federal Labor Relations Authority in the event of retaliation or discrimination.
The more workers stick together - comparing experiences, using our expertise to raise issues and convince others, and representing and defending each other - the more we will all be safe at work.
No matter what your legal rights are - having a community of fellow workers to stand together with will always give you a stronger position.
Being a part of the labor movement by joining Local 777 has other benefits such as extra life insurance, free roadside assistance, personal legal advice, favorable-terms mortgage and credit card products, and education, insurance, and travel deals.
